APRIL MORNING
Written by Linda Nell Cooper, member of the Dramatists Guild of America
Drama
Winner of the 2000 Charles M. Getchell Best New Play Award, granted by the Southeastern Theatre Conference. APRIL MORNING was a 2001 finalist in the Mill Mountain New Play Festival and a 2004 semifinalist in the Appalachian Festival of Plays.

Set deep in the Appalachian Mountains during the Depression, April Morning is a dark tale of love, passion, and survival, as Jake, Shane, and April intertwine lives in both the past and present. With traditional mountain folk tunes integrated throughout, April Morning is both haunting and tragic as it reveals a horrifying mystery through flashbacks. The script calls for 2 men and one woman and a simple set, which allows this show to be performed outdoors, in a blackbox, or traditional stage. The set may be realistic or abstract. There are no costume changes because the plot occurs within a 24-hour period. Musicians are not required because the folk tunes are sung a cappella and do not require a trained voice. April Morning was premiered at Renaissance Theatre in Lynchburg, VA, followed by a professional performance at Theatre Gym in Richmond, VA, and was featured in Southern Theatre Magazine. It now has had several professional performances.
