CHRISTMAS AT THE FIVE & DIME
Book by Linda Nell Cooper
Holiday Musical Comedy

Set in a department store in 1938, Christmas at the Five & Dime features Mr. Kirshfield, owner of the extravagantly new and modernized department store, Kirshfields, and who is all caught up in the commercialism of Christmas. He has opened his new store directly across the street from the Mom & Pop Drugstore called Candlers Five & Dime, hoping to put them out of business, but when his son falls in love with the Candlers’ daughter, the plot thickens. Both stores are filled with eccentric clerks and customers who wreck havoc the closer it gets to Christmas. Finally, it takes a little child to show everyone the meaning of Christmas. The script is suitable for the entire family and would work well in churches. The set requires the interiors of 2 stores on opposite sides of the stage from each other. The original music has a flavor of Big Band swing. There are roles for 10 men, 10 women, 4 children and a large chorus if needed. Christmas at the Five & Dime was premiered at Thomas Road Baptist Church and was broadcast nationally on the Liberty Channel.
