| SHENANDOAH CHRISTMAS
Book by Linda Nell Cooper
Dramatic Holiday Musical
Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains during the Civil War, Shenandoah
Christmas centers on the family of John and Phoebe Morgan,
a family torn apart by the war. With one son missing and one
son presumed dead, it is difficult to muster any Christmas
spirit at all for their young daughter, Lillian, who wants
to play Mary in the church Christmas play. Through tears and
laughter, the family is supported by a variety of friends,
such as: Sam Perkins, the country store proprietor; Rose Lockhart,
the town flirt; Sarah McAllister, the backwoods matron; and
Rufus, the dirtiest man in the territory. The ending promises
all the miracles of Christmas. The script is suitable for
the entire family and would work well in churches. The original
music has a bluegrass flavor, and is sprinkled with traditional
Christmas carols. The set requires a cabin interior and a
country store porch. There are roles for 11 men, 8 women,
6 children, and room for a large chorus of adults and children.
Shenandoah Christmas was premiered at Thomas Road
Baptist Church and was broadcast nationally on the Liberty
Channel.
